HERO OF
DARGAI
The true story of Piper George Findlater of the Gordon Highlanders, who became a legend on a sun-blasted Afghan hillside in 1897. During the assault on the Dargai Heights, Findlater was shot through both ankles and dropped to the ground, unable to move. Instead of crawling to cover, he propped himself up on the slope and kept playing the battle tune “The Haughs o’ Cromdale” as bullets tore the earth around him. His defiant music drove his comrades forward to take the heights and earned him the Victoria Cross—but also thrust a shy farm boy into sudden fame and controversy back home. The film explores both the desperate charge at Dargai and the unexpected cost of becoming a living symbol of courage.
